YORK REGION READY TO VACCINATE RESIDENTS 80 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER
|
|
|
By appointment only COVID-19 vaccines will be available to York Region residents
Newmarket– The Regional Municipality of York continues to deliver vaccines identified in Phase One of the Government of Ontario’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan and is advancing those eligible for vaccine to York Region residents 80 years of age and older.
Effective Monday, March 1, 2021 beginning at 8 a.m. York Region residents age 80 years of age and older (born in 1941 or earlier) can book an appointment for their COVID-19 vaccination by visiting york.ca/COVID19Vaccine
“This is great news for many of our most vulnerable residents and another step forward in bringing an end to the pandemic through vaccination,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “The health and well-being of our residents continues to remain a priority and we thank public, private and health-care partners for their major role in helping to protect some of our most vulnerable residents.”
Residents 80 years of age and older who are not able or comfortable booking an online appointment are encouraged to seek out a support person (caregiver, family member or friend) who can assist in booking this appointment on their behalf.
York Region Public Health is working with our local health-care partners to provide COVID-19 vaccines for this newly eligible priority group at three locations:
- Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital located in the City of Vaughan, operated by Mackenzie Health
- Cornell Community Centre located in the City of Markham, operated by Eastern York Region North Durham (EYRND) Ontario Health Team (OHT)
- Ray Twinney Recreation Complex located in the Town of Newmarket, operated by Southlake Regional Health Centre
“This is a very positive step forward. We are moving aggressively to vaccinate as many as possible within the province’s identified priority populations as vaccine supply becomes available,” said Dr. Karim Kurji, York Region’s Medical Officer of Health. “We are being as nimble as we can using different delivery models depending on the supplies of vaccines and the groups we need to immunize.”
Residents will be able to book appointments beginning Monday, March 1, 2021. Appointment availability is based on limited vaccine supply. We thank you for your ongoing patience.
Walk-in appointments are not available; please do not visit a vaccination clinic without an appointment – you will be turned away.

CITY OF MARKHAM
UPDATE ON RECREATION CENTRES
|
|
|
On February 22, the Region of York which includes the City of Markham, entered the RED-CONTROL Zone under a revised and strengthened
Keeping Ontario Safe and Open COVID-19 Response Framework.
While the RED-CONTROL Zone allows for the reopening of recreational facilities with reduced capacity and a narrow scope of activities, the City of Markham has decided to continue to take a cautious approach to reopening.
After careful consideration, Markham facilities will remain closed. Several new and more infectious strains of COVID-19 have been detected in York Region.
The City of Markham will reassess the current closures in two weeks. We understand the impact this has had on your organization, and we are committed to working with you to understand your needs in the context of this pandemic.
The health and safety of our community and our employees remains our number one priority.
